About this layer

Meteorites fall all over the planet, but only some are found and recorded. This layer maps more than 32,000 meteorite landings worldwide from the Meteoritical Society's records, published through NASA. Each find comes with details such as its name, mass, classification and the year it fell or was found.

Clusters show up in deserts and in Antarctica, where dark rocks are easy to spot, while the US has finds scattered across the plains and the Southwest. Use the layer to see whether a meteorite was found in your county, to plan a museum or impact-site trip, or to follow a meteor shower with some context. The license for this dataset is not specified by the source.
